Environment welfare actions that can be taken by corporates around the world, and their importance

Today we live in a crucial time where companies work under immense pressure to have a competitive edge over one another. In this race, the focus can easily become to get ahead irrespective of the damage caused to the local environment and the communities living therein. Everywhere in the world, corporations may be leading to a negative impact on the environment, without realising the repercussions. With commercial lands expanding and deforestation taking place, there are inevitably harsh effects on the environment. Every corporate says that they are going to help the environment by paying it off through planting even more trees and creating more greenery in the surrounding areas where they have acquired the lands. Is it enough?

The continuous rise in the world temperature, fluctuating weather patterns and reduced appearance of animals and birds via immigration, does mean that there is scope for further action. The difficulty is that there aren’t enough parameters to measure these changes. The most one could observe is the change in the weather and its unusual patterns i.e. big gaps between the timings of seasons, rains in the winter or summer. It is not just limited to big animals or birds but there are also the plethora of organisms and insects which are disappearing with speed. The question is what are the real measures that can be and should be taken.

However, there are many work-related lifestyle changes that a corporate can do in-house, with their employees, which can help replenish the environment and also develop a great nature serving lifestyle which can make big changes over an extended period:-

1. Educating children at home and in local communities about the environment, helping them to plant more trees and sharing with them with ideas about taking care of the environment.
2. Encouraging organisation’s staff to undertake gardening and associating with nature so that they could understand how long it takes for a plant and tree to grow and just cutting them does no good.
3. Helping employees understand the tranquility which nature brings and how it is incomparable to digital platforms which are there for fun and relaxation.
4. Having a step-by-step plan for the employees’ awareness and education to understand nature.
5. Encouraging recycling and use of reusable products like using one’s own bags and mugs.
6. Creating awareness about non-renewable natural resources and how they are depleting with massive usage and how contributions of one person are underestimated.
7. Helping everyone understand the power of going digital and going paperless.
